BALLPARK HISTORY

The Ballpark District is located in Downtown Denver, southeast of Coors Field. It is a mixed-use neighborhood that has seen significant residential development amongst historic industrial buildings, many of which still stand today.

During its peak, this area revolved around Denver’s rail line with warehouses and factories all catering to train-related activities. Over time, the area grew up alongside the railroad tracks that carried goods and raw materials into Denver’s industrial market. Today you’ll still find many brick buildings that sport loading docks on their street frontages. Waves of immigrants who worked here and called the area home – Italian, Irish, Japanese, Chinese and, more recently, Mexican – have left their own unique stamp on the area.

In 2002, the Ballpark Historic District was formed to preserve many of the historic warehouses and buildings here. In the last 20 years, commercial uses have made way for residential developments, creating a unique mix of living, employment and entertainment uses. The growing number of social service agencies over the past several decades means a higher demand for supporting a diverse array of people. As the makeup of Ballpark has changed, so have the demands on it.
