GID CASE STUDIES
There are two distinctive types of special districts that are most frequently used in Denver by neighborhood stakeholders to support special improvements and services in their area:
TYPE OF DISTRICT |
WHO THEY ASSESS |
WHAT THEY CAN DO |
General Improvement District (GID) |
Residential and commercial property owners |
Infrastructure, maintenance, cleaning, safety and security and other services that support this work |
Business Improvement District (BID) |
Commercial property owners only |
Marketing, economic development, business support as well as some of the services a GID can do |
At the beginning of the process to form a GID for Ballpark, we looked at how each of the above mechanisms might be applicable to the area and the services the stakeholders want funded. Given the significant presence of residential AND commercial properties in the area, it was determined that the GID – which can assess both residential and commercial properties – was the most equitable tool to support the desired services.
